National Park Service Engineering Equipment Operator in United States

Summary THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT. This type of announcement provides the National Park Service with a readily available source of applicants when vacancies occur. Eligibility and qualifications will be verified when there is a vacancy for the location and grade for which you applied. Positions may be filled at one or more of the duty locations included in this announcement. Responsibilities The following duties are listed at the WG-08 level for these positions: Operates a variety of heavy equipment, construction equipment, and motor vehicles with gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more. Operates and maintains a variety of motor vehicles and heavy operating equipment (e.g. dump truck, front end loader, bulldozer, road brooms, street sweepers, asphalt lay down machines, etc.). Maintains and repairs roads, parking areas, ditches, and culverts using appropriate heavy equipment for task. Operate various types of equipment and trucks on roadways and various terrains in inclement and/or varying weather conditions. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until August 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 17, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 15th and the last day of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Some positions are career seasonal. The nature of seasonal work may vary from year to year, which is generally based on budget, workload, and/or weather. A career seasonal work schedule provides for at least 26 weeks (13 pay periods) of full-time work, and as many as 26 weeks (13 pay period) of non-duty/non-pay time per year as determined by management. The non-pay time for these positions may be two weeks to six months but is expected to be two consecutive weeks between (ex. October and December). See locations below for non-pay time. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You must possess and maintain a current Class A Commercial Driver's License [with Tanker endorsements]. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.. Occupancy of government quarters may be required. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability as a Engineer Equipment Operator Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order) -AND- SELECTIVE FACTOR: Applicants must meet ALL of the following to qualify. Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside with the majority of work being performed outside. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to inclement weather. Works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures. Frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, fumes, oils, solvents and cold and dampness. Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats. Positions filled from this announcement may be a bargaining or a non-bargaining unit position. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months.
