SUMMARY:

Provide Leadershipand Managementwith engineeringand technical support to substation professionals comprisedof substation physical engineers, designers,and draftersfor the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Incumbentswill managedirect reports includingengineers and designers, CAD technicians and administrativepersonnel and/orsupervisors who manage physical design teams.This role is primarilya leadership rolebut may include both direct billable client work (projectwork) based on project loading.The incumbent is expected to establish and/or maintain processes for projecttracking, quality control,financial controls, personnel development, and client engagement. Personnel responsibilities include developingdynamic teams throughsuperior leadership, training, performancereviews,recruiting, succession planningand adherence to standards of conduct. Provide technical competencyand direction on complexengineering and technical problems in thespecificareaof expertisefor the management of engineeringprojects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership and management along with engineering/technical leadershipto a skilled, qualified, and motivated engineering and designteam by:

a. Displaying effective leadership skills in communication,development,motivation,accountability, and assisting individuals throughthe use of innovative techniques and effectivemanagement systems.

b. Ensuring that individuals have the training, tools, personal equipment,work environment,and technical support to optimize theirperformance and achievedesired results.

c. Coaching, trainingand mentoring an engineering and design teamand/or engineering and design supervisors.

d. Providing honest and constructive feedback, assistancein setting priorities,and opportunitiesfor personaland professionaldevelopment.

Performproject management and controls activities on clientprojects along with the ability to be Responsible

Chargefor engineering.

Ensurethat costand utilization goalsare met by effectiveplanning,organizing, scheduling,and monitoring of work activities.

 Provide technical leadership to ensure that all specific engineering designsare providedper applicable professional codes and standards by:

a. Providing technical directionto project teams on complexmulti-disciplined projects.

b. Creating or maintainingsystems for tracking projects, client satisfaction, staff development, and quality control

c. Developing and maintainingengineering standards, work practices, and systems.

d. Maintaining knowledgeof the engineering and technical industrycodes, standards, and best practices.

e. Developing and maintainingknowledge of the current and future enablers, systems, and applications available in the industryto ensure continuous improvement.

Manageand develop client relations through partnerships betweenPike Engineering and our clients

Administer and ensure adherence to Pike Engineering corporatesafetypolicies.

Carryout administrative duties in accordance with company policy.

Assist in recruiting efforts, business development and strategic planning.

Perform otherduties as assignedby management.

RELATIONSHIP OUTSIDEWORK GROUP:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Managea team of substation engineering and design professionals with direct management responsibility and/orsupervisor that directlysupervise the team.

EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE

RequiredA Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Electrical or Civil Engineering (with a preference for Electrical Engineering) and experience equivalent to 10+ years in Engineering practice.

RequiredEngineering Degreeawarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET

ProfessionalEngineer (P.E.)

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING:

Significant experienceat a professionallevelin electricalpower system engineering related to designing utility transmission and distribution substations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

A.Abilityto read, analyze, and interpretcommon scientificand technicaljournals,financial reports, and legal documents.

B.Ability to write reports,Business correspondence,and procedure manuals.

C.Abilityto respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers,regulatoryagencies,or the businesscommunity

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

A.Abilityto workwith mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.

C.Abilityto compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret spreadsheets

REASONING ABILITY:

Preferred:

· NCEES and registration as a Professional Engineer in multiple states

· Experiencein the electric utility industry.

· 8 - 10 years of electrical utility substation design experience (as an employee, contractor,or consultant) with a workingknowledgeof electricalsubstation design at voltageof 69kV and higher.

· Technical proficiency in all aspects of electric utility substation design including general arrangement and layoutof the substation equipment; understandingof the functions and application of all components (breakers,transformers, cap banks,reactors, etc.);understanding of foundation design,

grounding,lightningand shielding protection, relays and controls; etc.

· Ability to ensure that a complete design package (drawings, bill of materials, conduit lists, construction specifications, etc.) are delivered to the clientwithin budget and on time with a high level of quality.

· Ability to constantly improve processes and procedure to ensure best possible delivered designs.

· Proficiencywith NESC and IEEE and industry standards.

· Workingknowledge and ability to perform:

o Groundingstudies.

o Bus calculations.

o Lightning protection studies.

o Substation lighting / illumination studies.
