Manager, Shipping

1st Shift

Summary:

Manage and Direct Shipping Business Unit Operations to assure effectiveness and efficiency of resources to achieve critical performance goals defined for: quality, safety, delivery, service, and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for the following Unit KPI’s related to:

  • Order expediting based on Customer needs

  • Meeting Daily Dispatch

  • Direct labor management based on volume

  • Shipping accuracy to maintain complete ship ratio

  • Work with Industrial Engineering and floor personnel to ensure compliance in the area of safety and environmental guidelines along with maintaining 5S for the area.

  • Work with internal and external logistics for coordinating daily shipment schedules.

  • Manage plant personnel matters and determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and workflow as required to meet production demands.

  • Support a proactive, engaged work culture that promotes cross functional team work to bring about continuous improvement.

  • Issue written and oral instructions as required maintaining cross functional, internal and external customer communications.

  • Initiates plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals and objectives for the Shipping Department.

  • Promote positive work culture through consistent communications and application of Human Resources policies.

  • Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.

  • Complete regular cycle counts and maintain proper documentation

  • Receives all proof of deliveries and submits to invoicing clerk

  • Create shipping manifest for all outgoing shipments

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Individual manages all Shipping Department employees including two Supervisors and 10+ Associates.

  • Approving all time for department within the timekeeping system each week.

  • Training employees.

  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.

  • Conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions for the Department.

  • Appraises employee performance.

  • Disciplining employees and supports supervisors in the coaching and development of their direct reports.

  • Addressing department complaints and resolving problems.

Education/Experience:

Must have at least 2 years of management level experience in the field of logistics or warehousing. Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university is preferred

No certifications or licenses required.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Proper lifting techniques required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The travel required for this position is 5%.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
