Mechanical Design Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work within our Research and Development team based at our Loughton factory.

Ideally educated to HND/Degree level (or equivalent) with 5 years experience. A proven track record is desirable in, light mechanical/electro-mechanical design, creative design solutions, component design, and managing small design projects.

Based out of our Loughton location.

Your role in our future

  • Mechanical Design of new and upgraded products. This may include design of overall machine functions, concept design, detail design, component design, design for assembly and manufacture, ergonomic design, aesthetics and styling, etc. Arrange and contribute to design reviews within the Mechanical Design section.

  • Design management. Planning and implementation of the design elements within the New Product Process. Compiling relevant documents / records as required.

  • Project leadership (when assigned). Facilitate the progress of projects through the New Product Process. Complete appropriate documentation and records. Prepare progress reports.

  • Contribute to the operation of the Mechanical Design section and the R&D department as a whole, giving assistance to other sub-sections as necessary.

  • To carry out responsibilities relating to projects as laid down in the New Product Process and other relevant departmental procedures.

  • To implement best engineering practice appropriate to cost.

  • To liaise with external suppliers and customers when necessary.

  • To liaise and communicate with all sections within the R&D department.

  • To liaise and communicate with other departments.

  • To maintain an overview of departmental and company processes and discharge any specific responsibilities contained within them.

  • To represent the department and company in a professional manner when required.

  • To inform and appraise your line manager as appropriate.

  • To ensure that at all times, in the discharge of responsibilities, the requirements of Health and Safety At Work are met.

All duties listed above are to be carried out under the direction of the Development Manager, who may also require other duties not specified to be undertaken.

Your profile

  • Strong grasp of engineering principles.

  • Innovative, creative, and capable of ‘outside-the box’ thinking

  • Good analytical, numeracy, and problem-solving skills.

  • Co-operative approach to colleagues and other departments

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Self-motivated and hands-on approach to problem-solving.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision (with the guidance of line manager).

  • Ideally educated to HND/Degree level (or equivalent) with 5 years experience.

  • A proven track record is desirable in, creative design solutions, component design, and managing small design projects (including planning, review, cost estimation and documentation).

  • Experience in the following areas is desirable:Creo or Solidworks CAD; Light mechanical or electro-mechanical design; Small sheet metal component design; Low to medium volume manufacturing methods; Light machinery and mechanism design; Experience in the following areas is of particular interest:; Paper feed, separation and transport; Electro-mechanical drive systems
