Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

The mentor mothers will work as mentors and advocates with pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of 5 who have a recent history of intimate partner violence. They will work in the areas of safety planning, building social support and enhancing effectiveness obtaining community resources. MOSAIC Plus mentors will meet their clients in a private, confidential location to assess if there is ongoing intimate partner violence (IPV), conduct safety planning, strength and needs assessment. Mentor mothers meet their clients (in person or by phone) for a minimum of two hours per week (up to three times a week) in the first two months and once a week in the following months for a session no less than 60 minutes. They will collaboratively set a realistic treatment plan for the intervention period. MOSAIC Plus mentor mothers will maintain regular contact with their clients at least once a week (may be more as needed). Information obtained during initial assessment (safety, strengths, needs) will be used to plan the rest of the mentoring intervention in the subsequent months. The mentor mothers will review their clients’ activities since the initial planning meeting and problem-solve any challenges they may encounter. Mentor mothers also facilitate their clients’ access to other services by informing, educating them and advocating for them when needed.

Their services will involve 1) building social support networks by helping their clients solve any interpersonal difficulties they may have within their networks. Mentor mothers will also work with their clients by linking them with new social support groups and networks available in the community. 2) Informing about services and advocating for their access. Mentor mothers will help improve their access to services by actively identifying the needed services, creating proper linkage with providers and advocating for their access by addressing the barriers they may encounter. 3) Plan and monitor their safety by helping their clients create a safety plan and monitor the potential of future violence and address any challenges they may have.

Minimum Qualifications

We are interested in recruiting mentors from the community who meet the following eligibility criteria:

Experience of caring for young children and perinatal women

Has access to reliable transportation

Is available up to 2 hours per ween by phone or in person

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of resources and services in Flint Genesee County

Previous experience in maternal health and intimate partner violence related work is advantageous

Knowledge of how o use a computer to upload intervention recordings and have access to a computer with internet
