The Role

The Equipment Operator is capable of operating various pieces of equipment. This role must keep safety at the highest priority while monitoring daily production, quality control and ensuring upkeep and maintenance of the equipment. This position works under general supervision where routine duties are performed with minimal supervision. Standard practices or procedures allow the employee to proceed alone at routine work. There is an occasional check of work while in progress and work is reviewed upon completion. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks assigned. Normal work hours are 7:00am until 6:00 pm Monday through Friday with work on weekends as needed. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive job description as needs tend to change over time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or Manager Safety & Health.

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.

  • Operates mobile machinery and equipment used to drill, blast, crush, screen and load hard rock, sand, gravel, and other raw materials as needed.

  • Responsible for the movement of materials, to perform preventative maintenance & minor repairs on equipment, and working with others on daily goals of production.

  • Ability to operate equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively.

  • Performs all work in a safe, efficient manner, following routine and all standards of performance. Work is repetitive and continuous.

  • Maintains the daily cleanliness of the equipment.

  • Completes any daily equipment tasks that are given.

  • Assists weekly in the loading of the trains.

  • Assists weekly in dipping the ponds

  • Assists weekly in grading haul roads.

  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

  • Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

  • Performs other duties assigned.

Required Experiences

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. Three (3) to Five (5) years prior related experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
