Job Description

AECOM is looking for an Environmental Scientist to join its team in either Burnaby or Victoria, BC. This is a Full-time role.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate field service subcontractors and fully supervise ground investigation works.

  • Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.

  • Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.

  • Collect soil and groundwater samples/data during assessment and remedial action activities at various sites.

  • Coordinate with laboratories to secure appropriate analysis and in a timetable consistent with project requirements.

  • Consolidate and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive conceptual site models within the context of BC and Federal policy.

  • Assist with the interpretation of data, including human health and ecological risk assessments to inform mitigation measures and remediation design.

  • Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.

  • Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.

  • Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under general supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.Sc + 2 years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Basic working knowledge of Environmental Risk Assessment.

  • Full Driving License.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • MSc degree in Toxicology or Biology or Public Health or Environmental Chemistry and a strong undergraduate degree in a related science or engineering based subject

  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in sometimes challenging conditions.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable liaising with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors alike.

  • Flexible with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1 – 2 hrs drive of home office, and occasionally further afield.

  • Ability and willingness to learn and rapidly master new tasks.

  • Strong research and report writing (including web-based research).

  • Strong numerate skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills (in English); fluency in other languages is an advantage.

  • Strong quality and time management.

  • Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.

  • Understanding of contaminated land assessment and screening site data to establish lists of contaminants of potential concern.

  • Field experience collecting samples (soil, water, sediment, porewater, air, food).

  • Understanding of water quality.

  • Experience in conduct of human health and/or ecological risk assessment.

  • Some experience of working in a corporate environment (within or outside of environmental consultancy).

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $65,000.00 - $75,000.00.
