75333BRJob Posting Title:Research Assistant I- The Lipton LabDepartment:NeurologyAutoReqId:75333BRStatus:Full-TimeStandard Hours per Week:40 Job Posting Category:ResearchJob Posting Description:The Lipton Laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital’s Department of Neurology and Kirby Neurobiology Center is seeking a talented and motivated Research Assistant to join its ranks. The laboratory investigates the interface between the circadian timekeeping system and cell resilience, biochemistry, and synaptic function to understand how clocks contribute to diseases of the nervous system. The laboratory uses a range of techniques including fixed and live microscopy, super-resolution imaging, biochemistry, CRISPR, real-time luminometry, and animal assays. An ideal applicant would have a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills, aptitude for teamwork, and strong analytical and quantitative skills. A background in molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, or biochemistry, would be beneficial. The laboratory has a strong ethos of mentorship and an excellent track-record in career advancement. At least a two-year commitment is preferred but not required. The laboratory is part of a large and thriving scientific community at Boston Children’s and Harvard Medical School.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for:

  • According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performs a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy.

  • Assists in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor.

  • Performs the following techniques typically required for the laboratory/study:

  • Maintains records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed.

  • Maintains equipment, lab area, and supplies in a neat professional manner.Sterilize and clean glassware, and prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures.

  • Inventories supplies, alerts supervisor to needed supplies, or mixes standard reagents.

  • Processes order for supplies and/or animals.

  • Attends courses in safety procedures for handling, storage, and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive, and toxic materials.

  • Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.

  • Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I.

  • Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.

  • Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

In order to qualify you must have:

  • A bachelors degree in STEM with a focuss on Biology, Genetics Computer Science, Engineering or Biochemistry.

  • Research animal expereince.

  • Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
