Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • The position requires operating buses, medium-sized trucks and equipment, typically with no more than two axles, to pick up and deliver goods, materials, or passengers.

  • The work also includes monitoring the mechanical condition and cleanliness of the equipment.

  • Inspecting and maintaining fluid and air pressure levels, and keeping associated records and reports.

  • This position requires special licensure or certification to operate the equipment (CDL.)

  • Greeting and communicating with passengers to get them to their intended destination.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience operating cargo vans, buses or similar equipment.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement (P2).

Conditions of Employment:

  • Essential Personnel: This position is subject to call 24/7 and may be required to work overtime in response to any emergencies as needed. If hired, the incumbent may be required to carry a cell phone and provide off-hours phone contact information for emergency call-in purposes.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, a motor vehicle check and drug test.

  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UC-AMC Facilities Operations Department Policies.

  • Must be willing and able to walk, stand, use manual dexterity, and eye/hand coordination constantly.

  • Must be willing and able to sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, reach, push, and pull frequently.

  • Must be willing and able to work outside, exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather, and in high, exposed places.

  • Must be willing and able to work in small, confined spaces and work around machinery or moving equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience operating cargo vans, buses or similar equipment to transport people.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Ability to commit to all safety guidelines when operating university vehicles

  • Outstanding customer service skills

Facilities Management has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Lite Rail Shuttle Driver (Equipment Operator II) position. The Light Rail Shuttle Driver safely transports people using university vehicles. This position fulfills the transit services for campus either through completing routine routes, or contracts for special transportation needs. This position will navigate a variety of routine and contracted routes on a time schedule with passenger safety, road, and traffic conditions, as well as vehicle operational capacity, under consideration. Once certified to operate specific vehicles, the individual in this position will ensure prompt transit for campus affiliates and guests in consideration of their needs, vehicle operational capacity and road conditions. The annual salary range for this position has been established as: $45,213.00 - $52,451.00 The above salary range () represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
